He Giveth More Grace

I have four children, and one of the things that my husband and I sought to instill in our children is individual responsibility - in other words, accepting the consequences of their own actions without pointing the blame on someone else. One of the other traits that we worked on was that of being independent. I believe that all parents want their children to grow up to be responsible adults that will be an asset to their generation; both of the character traits I mentioned are vital - no one wants their child to be a "flake."

My daughter learned "independence" very early - maybe a little too early as she seemed to be compelled to do things on her own, even if she was too little or too young. Happy New Year - almost! Today is the last day of 2009 - it is the last day of the first decade of the 2000's - a new century; and what a decade it has been. As I ponder all that has transpired in these last ten years I am amazed at all that the Lord has done in my own life and in the lives of my family members. In the past ten years I have witnessed the weddings of all four of our children; we have experienced the joy of the birth of 11 grandchildren; we have celebrated our 25th & 30th wedding anniversaries - and we have beheld the glory of God - breathtaking! And they lived happily ever after.   Isn’t that what we all want?   I know that’s what I want; I know I like to watch movies that have a good ending.   I hate it when movies end up sad and there is no resolve to a problem!   I know that in “real life” things don’t always turn out the way we hope and that we must face hard truths – but why should I have to watch it?   I like to watch a movie to escape…not to face more harsh reality! I like the corny movies – the ones where the girl gets the guy of her dreams, where the bad guys get their due rewards, and the heroes get the deserved recognition.   I especially love old movies from the 40’s.   During that era everyone dressed up – guys even wore a tie to baseball games!   In those days the administration did not allow criminals to get away with their crimes – by the end of the movie they had to be caught.   I like that and of course wish it would always be that way!   I was thinking about that this morning, and I realized

This posting is actually from notes I took when I spoke at a Pastor's Conference to the ladies on September 15, 1998 Surviving a Crisis “A Trophy of God’s Grace” I believe that before you read this I need to qualify myself – you see for someone that is going through a crisis or has lived through a difficult time it is really hard to listen to someone tell them how to go through something they have never experienced. On September 15, 1991, the Sunday right after Pastor’s Conference my children were getting ready for bed after the evening service. The boys came out and told me that Kellie was crying because she was in some sort of pain. My husband took her to the emergency room where they took ex-rays and released her finding really nothing of great concern. That night she was up probably every 30minutes to an hour vomiting.
